Dr. Kathleen Ranson Scholarship in Reading

The Dr. Kathleen Ranson Scholarship in Reading is offered through the University of Central Missouri Alumni Foundation for a graduate student pursuing a degree in literacy education who completed their undergraduate degree at UCM, have a minimum GPA of 3.75, and have at least 16 credit hours remaining to complete their graduate degree. This scholarship is made possible by way of a gift from Dr. M. Kathleen Ranson, Professor Emeritus of Reading, of Warrensburg, Missouri.

Dr. Ranson’s academic career began at Longwood College, Class of 1936, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Physical Education. She received her master’s degree from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College for Teachers in 1941. She voluntarily enlisted in the United States’ Navy during World War II, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. After her military service, she completed her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1952. Shortly thereafter, she joined the faculty here at the University of Central Missouri and faithfully advanced and represented the university as a faculty member for 29 years until her retirement in 1981.
