A.E. Wright International Scholarship

The A.E. Wright International Scholarship is available through the University of Central Missouri Alumni Foundation for a student pursuing a degree in childhood or elementary education who is participating in a UCM study abroad experience that is one semester or longer. This scholarship is made possible by way of a generous gift from Dr. Audrey E. Wright, professor of emeritus at UCM.

Dr. Wright served the university in the Curriculum and Instruction Department from 1988 to 2004, holding a number of significant leadership roles. One of her strongest interests was her passion for developing global understanding in her students through international experiences. She spent much of her K-12 experience working with kindergarten and elementary students. It was her personal belief that teachers especially needed to have a “global” perspective through international experiences to broaden their perspectives and better prepare them to meet the diverse complexities of the classroom and effectively prepare children for the challenges of the 21st century. Further, leaving one’s comfort zone makes educators more open to questioning and understanding society and life experiences children bring into the classroom.
