Helen Monroe Bell Scholarship

The Helen Monroe Bell Scholarship is available through the University of Central Missouri Alumni Foundation for a student pursuing a degree in elementary education. This scholarship is made possible by way of a generous gift from Mary Monroe Bell of DeKalb, IL, Harris, Kathryn Seidel of Ames, IA, and Monroe Bell of Evanston, IL, in honor of their mother, Helen Monroe Bell, a 1906 graduate of UCM.

The children of Helen Monroe Bell established this scholarship in her honor at the University of Central Missouri, which was called State Normal School #2 Helen was certified to teach. She wanted to take the college courses necessary to teach, but at the time, she had the brains but not the money. She took correspondence courses and some summer classes until she completed the two-year course. With this scholarship, we hope to make it easier for other aspiring teachers to get their education.
