The Walt Hicklin Government and Public Service Scholarship

In keeping with the spirit of the American Legion’s Boys State and Girls State programs to promote a better understanding of government and to encourage young people to become involved in public service, Political Science at the University of Central Missouri has established these scholarships. The scholarships are named for Walt Hicklin in recognition of his tireless work on behalf of the Boys State and Girls State programs hosted by Central each summer.

Two awarded each year one to a female and one to a male.

Amount of the Award: $1000 awarded at the beginning of the Fall Semester. The scholarship is renewable a maximum of two times for undergraduate study. To be eligible for renewal the recipient must continue to complete a minimum of 24 credits each academic year at the University of Central Missouri and maintain the required overall grade point average. Students must reapply each year for renewal.

The ideal candidate will have a 3.5 grade point average overall, have completed 24 credit hours at UCM at the time of scholarship being applied, and will be pursuing an academic program in preparation for a career in public service.
